Rebel Tide: The American Civil War, 1861-65 – The Strategic Tide System

Rebel Tide is a two-player, strategic-level card-driven wargame covering the entire American Civil War. Designed by Gregory M. Smith, this title uses the acclaimed action-packed engine found in Imperial Tide and Pacific Tide to capture the epic scope and bloody battles of the conflict in a highly accessible 3-to-4-hour experience.

The Card Re-Buy & Resource System

The core of your strategy lies in how you manage your annual production. At the end of each year (turn), players must make critical decisions on which action cards to repurchase for the upcoming campaigns. These cards dictate your reinforcements, movement, combats, and entrenchments. Supplementing this is a flexible Resource Point system that serves as your operational reserve to replace infantry points or push actions when needed.

Historical Leaders & Diplomatic Pressure

  • Historical Leaders: Generals range from excellent to poor. Bad leaders can be sacked and replaced randomly by spending movement actions, while good leaders add vital combat power and allow your troops to advance after combat.
  • The Political Track: Represents Abstract Anglo-French support for the Confederacy. If the CSA player pushes this track to the maximum early in the war, it can trigger an instant political victory.
  • Built-In Solitaire Bot: Features a streamlined, simple-to-use "Bot" system that creates smart action priorities for a non-human opponent, making it perfect for solo gaming.

Product Specifications & Components

  • Complexity: 4/10 | Players: 2 (with excellent 8/10 Solitaire suitability) | Time: 3-4 hours
  • One Mounted game map (22” x 34”) & One countersheet (9/16” counters).
  • 48 Game Cards (24 per side) & 5 Double-sided Year Cards.
  • Two Player Aid Cards, Rules Booklet, and Two 6-sided dice.
