The Ultimate Ancient World Anthology

Thunderbolt Deluxe Edition represents the final vision of Richard H. Berg, completed by Mark Herman and Alan Ray. This massive package combines three volumes of the acclaimed series into one, featuring updated GMT graphic standards and extensively revised rules based on years of player feedback.

Leadership-Driven Gameplay

The system uses a dynamic chit-pull mechanic that prioritizes the role of the commander:

Operational Momentum: Forces do not have fixed movement allowances; instead, movement is governed by attrition and a leader's ability to sustain operations.
Tactical Depth: Battles account for cavalry superiority, elite unit status, and leadership modifiers. The "Unpredictable Result" on the combat table ensures that no victory is guaranteed.
Political Framework: Navigate the Roman hierarchy of magistrates (Consuls, Proconsuls) and the Carthaginian family power struggles that determine army funding and theater of operations.

Massive Content & Scenarios

With three full-size maps covering the Western Mediterranean, Italy, Africa, and Spain, the game offers incredible variety:

The 2nd Punic War: Multiple start dates, including the grand campaign and Hannibal’s invasion of Italy.
Legacy Content: Includes the Samnite Wars, the invasion of Pyrrhus, and the 1st Punic War from the series' previous volumes.
Tribal Diplomacy: Over 20 Celtic and Iberian tribes are modeled with unique Aggression ratings, offering allies or enemies through diplomacy or conquest.

Key Features

Historical Personages: Over 80 meticulously researched leaders with individual ratings for tactical and operational capability.
Deluxe Components: Updated city and army display cards, enlarged counters, and refined maps.
Scalability: Features several introductory single-map scenarios alongside the mammoth multi-map campaigns.
