Siege of Constantinople: The Twilight of an Empire
The 1453 siege is a saga of courage and heroism. Constantinople, the strongest fortified city in the western world, faced an overwhelming foe outnumbering the defenders by more than 15 to 1. This Deluxe Edition brings the classic SPI game from Strategy & Tactics magazine back to life, incorporating known errata and upgrading the experience with premium components.
Deep Historical Gameplay
The game offers two distinct scenarios to fit your gaming needs:
- Campaign Scenario: A full-length experience (approx. 4 hours) covering the entire siege, including bombardment, tunneling, fire attacks, and melee combat.
- Assault Scenario: A shorter, intense version (2 hours or less) focusing on the final phase of the conflict. This is ideal for a quick session and is the recommended scenario for solitaire play.
Deluxe Edition Improvements
This is more than just a reprint; it is a significant upgrade to the classic design:
- Premium Components: Features a larger mounted map board and enlarged counters for improved clarity and ease of play.
- Polished Rules: Incorporates all known errata from the original while updating the rulebook for modern clarity.
- Naval Warfare: Includes optional naval rules (originally from Moves magazine), featuring both the classic version and a new, simplified set to speed up gameplay significantly.
Key Features
- Historical Accuracy: A rigorous simulation of medieval siege tactics and constraints.
- High Stakes Asymmetry: Feel the crushing pressure of the Ottoman war machine versus the defiant, entrenched Byzantine defense.
- Strategic Scalability: The optional naval rules allow you to tailor the complexity to your group's preference, from casual play to expert-level historical gaming.
- Collector’s Quality: A beautiful tribute to a pillar of classic wargaming.
