VaeVictis Magazine: Featuring Complete Solitaire Game "Au Temps des Cerises 1871"

This issue of VaeVictis offers a comprehensive overview of historical wargaming, miniature rules, and military history. Alongside detailed reviews and tactical scenarios, this magazine includes a complete standalone solitaire wargame with die-cut counters focused on the high-stakes reconquest of Paris during the 1871 Commune uprising.

Complete Solitaire Wargame: Au Temps des Cerises 1871

In Au Temps des Cerises 1871, you take command of the Versaillais troops under Adolphe Thiers during the Third Republic. Your mission is not only to seize Paris from the revolutionary Commune forces, but also to build and preserve political legitimacy in the eyes of the French populace, Parisians, and foreign powers.

  • Strategic Challenges: Balance military advancement against fierce resistance, manage unexpected events and atrocities, and constantly track your political legitimacy points.
  • Complexity Rating: 5/10 (Accessible and fluid).
  • Solitaire Suitability: 10/10 (Purpose-built for solo play).
  • Playing Time: Approximately 2 hours.
  • Game Scale: 1 turn = 6 days | 1 cm = 700 to 1,000 meters | 1 counter = 1 key figure, ~5,000 soldiers, or 12 cannons.
