Paper Wars Issue #112 – Sinking Yamato

Sinking Yamato, featured in Paper Wars Issue #112, is a low-complexity, tactical-level solitaire game designed by Gregory M. Smith. Experience the final mission of the legendary Japanese battleship as it faces three massive waves of U.S. aircraft on April 7, 1945.

High-Stakes Solitaire Survival

As the commander, you must orchestrate the defense of the Yamato against formations of roughly 20 aircraft each:

  • Tactical Command : Decide when to rotate the massive main gun turrets, direct the fire of a multitude of AA guns, and manage ship movement to dodge incoming threats.
  • Advanced Damage Control : Deploy damage control teams to fight spreading fires, use radar warnings to prep your defenses, and master the life-or-death decision of counter-flooding to prevent capsizing.
  • Hypothetical Options : Beyond the historical setup, explore a "what-if" scenario with additional U.S. aircraft to test the ultimate limits of the ship's survivability.

Key Features

  • Detailed Rules : Covers strafing effects, spare gun crews, and fire propagation for a realistic simulation of naval combat chaos.
  • Accessible Complexity : Designed for quick setup and engaging solitaire play without overwhelming rules overhead.
  • Expert Design : Gregory M. Smith brings his expertise in solitaire wargaming to this intense tactical experience.

Product Information

  • Scale : Tactical (Single ship vs. aircraft formations).
  • Complexity : Low.
  • Components : Magazine + one 34x22” small-hex map + over 100 counters.
