Spanish-American War, 1898 – Conflict in the Caribbean
Spanish-American War, 1898, designed by Vance von Borries, is a strategic historical simulation for two to four players. It recreates the naval and land campaigns fought between the United States (allied with Cuban forces) and the Spanish Empire in Cuba and Puerto Rico. Experience the pivotal conflict that signaled the rise of American global power and the end of Spain's colonial presence in the Americas.
Dual Land and Sea Systems
The game features two distinct yet deeply integrated systems to simulate the complexities of turn-of-the-century warfare:
- Naval Operations: Manage fleet movements, blockades, and decisive naval engagements.
- Land Campaigns: Command battalions and regiments in the tropical terrain of the Caribbean islands.
- Integrated Strategy: The full Campaign Game merges both systems, where naval supremacy is essential to sustaining and successful land invasions.
Scenarios and Versatility
The game includes introductory scenarios designed to teach the land and sea rules separately. Once mastered, players can tackle the comprehensive Campaign Game. While primarily a two-player experience, the game can accommodate up to four players (with separate land and sea commanders) and offers medium suitability for solitaire play.
