Brief Border Wars 2 – Four small border conflicts of the early 20th century

Overview

The game uses a card-driven system first introduced in Brief Border Wars, capturing the chaotic, stop-and-start nature of these improvised wars. Each conflict comes with its own exclusive rules, challenging your ability to improvise as you explore four lesser-known yet fascinating conflicts of the early 20th century.

The Four Conflicts

The set includes:

  • 1913: Second Balkan War (“The Interallied War”) – Bulgaria’s surprise attack against Serbia and Greece and the ensuing multinational counteractions.
  • 1919: The Seven-Day War (Teschen) – A border clash between Czechoslovakia and Poland over strategic coal and iron-rich territory.
  • 1939: The Nomonhan Incident (Battle of Khalkin Gol) – A clash between Japanese and Soviet forces in Mongolia, pivotal for the Pacific theater of WWII.
  • 1940: The Italo-Greek War (The Balkan Defiance) – The Italian invasion of Greece disrupted by poor logistics and determined Greek resistance.

Gameplay

Players take on the roles of commanders, making decisions under the constraints of logistics, diplomacy, and the unique rules of each conflict. Games are designed for 1-2 players, ideally with two, and last 1-2 hours each. The variable time scale ranges from a day to a week per turn, with units ranging from paramilitary groups to full divisions. Improvisation and strategic planning are crucial to succeed in these unpredictable wars.
