On the night of July 7, 1937, a skirmish at the Marco Polo Bridge near Beijing escalated into a full-scale invasion and occupation of China by the Imperial Japanese Army, lasting until 1945. Western historians call this the “Second Sino-Japanese War,” while in China it is known as the “War of Resistance,” and in Japan it is referred to as the “China Incident.”

This game focuses on the first five years of the conflict, when China faced the Japanese Empire largely on its own. Players assume the roles of various Factions attempting to attack or defend the Republic of China: the expansionist Japanese Army, the challenged Guomindang Government, the insurgent Chinese Communist Party, or the independent and opportunistic Warlords. Through military, political, and economic actions, and by leveraging diverse events, players maneuver forces to influence populations, extract resources, and achieve their Faction’s objectives. A deck of cards governs turn order, events, victory conditions, and other processes. Non-player Factions can be managed by the rules, allowing for solitaire, two-player, or multi-player experiences.

Components:

  • One 22” x 34” Mounted Game Board
  • 52 Event Cards
  • 24 Non-Player Cards
  • 164 Wooden Pieces
  • One Full-color Countersheet
  • Four Fold-out Player Aid Pamphlets
  • Two Propaganda/Assault Aid Sheets
  • One Non-Player Aid Sheet
  • Two Non-Player Aid Foldouts
  • Four 6-sided Dice
  • One Rules of Play Booklet
  • One Playbook
  • One Non-Player Rulebook
  • One 3” Box
