Chancellorsville Scenarios (Extension for Field Commander Lee)
This module introduces five detailed tactical scenarios focusing on pivotal, smaller-scale engagements from the Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg campaigns. Each scenario highlights key actions, maneuvers, and command challenges faced by both sides during the spring of 1863.
The Five Engagements
The scenarios cover crucial company-, regiment-, and brigade-level actions:
- Catherine Furnace: Details the determined defense by the 23rd Georgian Infantry Regiment to prevent Union forces (Hooker) from breaking through to the hidden road network used by the Confederates for their flanking maneuver. (Scale: Company).
- Rebel Yell: Recreates the brave but ultimately futile stand of the 75th Ohio Regiment against the overwhelming numbers of Jackson's Corps. This action captures the moment after the famous hidden march when Jackson's soldiers struck the flank of the XI Corps, attacking with the terrifying "Rebel Yell." (Scale: Company).
- Hazel Grove: Focuses on the immediate aftermath of the wounding of "Stonewall" Jackson and A.P. Hill, when cavalry commander J.E.B. Stuart assumed command. Stuart organized and executed the critical attack at Hazel Grove, driving back Federal forces and initiating a general Union withdrawal. (Scale: Brigade).
- Marye’s Heights: Covers the first Union attempt to break through towards Chancellorsville against Confederate troops holding the stone wall atop Marye's Heights, near Fredericksburg. Despite being heavily outnumbered, General Early's soldiers held the line for several hours. (Scale: Regiment).
- Salem Church: While Lee enjoyed success to the west, the Confederate position to the east was tenuous. This scenario focuses on the Federal assault against the small Confederate token force left near Salem Church to prevent Union reinforcements from Fredericksburg. (Scale: Brigade).
This module is an extension that requires the base game Field Commander Lee.
