History of the World: The Odyssey of Civilization

History of the World is a timeless epic that traces the story of mankind on a map focused on the cradles of great civilizations. The game perfectly captures the cycle of empires: their meteoric rise, their monumental peak, and their inevitable fall under the strikes of new invaders.

Refined Gameplay

This latest edition introduces major changes while preserving the spirit that made the original a classic:

  • Asymmetric Strategy: Use Empire and Event cards to lead historical peoples, each with unique capabilities.
  • War Economy: Control territories and buildings (capitals, forts, cities) to generate the gold necessary for final victory.
  • Modernized Mechanics: Enjoy new strategic layers with "Area tokens," beneficial "Honor tokens," and a completely revamped player board.

The Best of Both Worlds

The designers have achieved a delicate balance:

  • Preserved Legacy: Iconic elements from the earliest versions—such as "Catastrophe"—have returned, now cleverly reimagined as "Honor" tokens.
  • Competitive Balancing: Overpowered legacy events, like the old "Weaponry" card, have been removed to ensure games are tighter, more tactical, and less reliant on luck.
  • Flexible Rules: You can now choose to play with or without dice, allowing you to tailor the level of randomness to your group's preference.

Key Features

  • Historical Scope: Over 60 different peoples to play, providing a massive, immersive experience.
  • Tactical Accessibility: Clear rules that make the progression from the Ancient World to the Modern Era seamless.
  • Gold-Driven Tension: The gold collection mechanic keeps the competition fierce until the very final turn.
  • Respectful Update: An overhaul that keeps the game's DNA intact while smoothing out historical frustrations.
