A Distant Plain – Insurgency in Modern Afghanistan

A Distant Plain takes players into the heart of the Afghan conflict, designed by the award-winning duo Volko Ruhnke and Brian Train. In this "sandbox" of history, military might is only one tool among many in a lethal game of shifting allegiances and cultural warfare.

A Four-Way Struggle for Control

  • The Coalition: Deploy high-tech forces to secure the country while balancing a small footprint and domestic pressure to bring the troops home.
  • The Government: Build a national army and police while wrestling with corrupt patronage networks and foreign partners who constantly redirect your efforts.
  • The Taliban: Use Pashtun solidarity and Pakistani sanctuaries to wage a seasonal insurgency against the occupier and its "puppets."
  • The Warlords: Secure your traditional ways against centralizers. Profit from the opium crop and block any faction from unifying the country under a single rule.

Components

  • One 22"x34" Mounted map.
  • 177 Wooden pieces (many embossed).
  • 78 Playing cards.
  • One full-color countersheet.
  • Rules booklet & Play booklet.
