Next War: Taiwan – 2nd Edition Experience the updated classic from the Next War series

Overview

This edition incorporates all known errata and updates the order of battle to reflect force changes since 2014.

Players simulate a near-future conflict around the island of Taiwan, where the People’s Republic of China seeks to bring the breakaway republic back into its sphere, while Taiwanese forces and their allies defend the island.

Game System

The 2nd edition retains the proven system of Next War: Korea, with adjustments for the Taiwan theater:

  • Ground Combat: units represent brigades, regiments, and battalions, rated for strength, mobility, and efficiency.
  • Air Units: fighter, bomber, and attack squadrons with capabilities for air-to-air combat, close air support, and strike missions.
  • Naval: mechanisms for sea control, submarines, mine warfare, anti-ship strikes, and amphibious groups. A new Naval Display Play Aid helps track movement and combat at sea.

Players can choose Standard Game scenarios for shorter games or the Advanced Game for more detailed control over air, naval, and special operations. The 2nd edition also allows combining this game with Next War: Korea for an extended campaign.

Map and Units

  • Scale: 7.5 miles per hex
  • Unit Scale: brigade/regiment/battalion
  • The map covers the entire island and includes tracking boxes and displays for air and sea control.

Components

  • 22" x 34" map
  • 684 counters on three sheets
  • Standard & Advanced Rulebook
  • Game-specific Rulebook
  • Naval and Air Superiority Display, plus full-color player aid cards

Game Duration

3.5 days per turn

Summary

In Next War: Taiwan, every decision counts: will you hold the line as the Taiwanese commander, or lead the Chinese assault? The 2nd Edition delivers a modernized, more accurate, and immersive wargaming experience.
